141 associations join £1bn social housing reform plan

Over 140 housing associations and councils have signed up to the government’s plan to reform social housing.

Published in July 2025, the Remediation Acceleration Plan sees social landlords, regulators and the government work together to improve social housing standards in the UK.

This revolves around fixing buildings, identifying remedial work required around safety issues and improving support for residents.

The plan has the goal of remediating every building — over 18 metres high — in a government funded scheme by the end of 2029.

By this point, the plan also aims to remove unsafe cladding from every building over 11 metres high.

The government is making available over £1bn to invest in this work.
